What is the Place des Marronniers eco-district?
Located west of Church Street, in the heart of Métis-sur-Mer, the residential development created by the organization cmétis offers 30 affordable and subsidized housing units, as well as twenty buildable lots.

What is the partnership between the Town and cmétis?
Since 2022, a public–collective partnership has linked the City of Métis-sur-Mer and the organization cmétis. Thanks to this partnership, loans and grants were awarded to cmétis to develop the eco-district, totaling investments of $10 million.
The Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ) notably subsidized the construction of the five apartment buildings for social (subsidized) housing and affordable housing in the amount of $4.9 million. To obtain this grant, the City of Métis-sur-Mer had to commit to a minimum contribution of 40%.
What is the City’s contribution to this residential development?
The minimum 40% contribution of the $4.9 million SHQ grant totals $1,963,400.36. This amount is offset by:
- the donation of the land on which the five apartment buildings were constructed (value of $65,234.86);
- analysis testing and other work on the lots ($95,125);
- a property tax and service tax credit spread over a maximum of 35 years ($1,803,040.50).
The City also committed to financing the work required to connect the development to the water supply and sewer networks. The proposed financing through a borrowing bylaw will be discussed at a public meeting in January 2026.
